"You’re betterthan that, Barda!! You’re a woman!!”
Big Barda + Mister Miracle = True Love Forever
I wonder, have I lived a skeleton’s life,
As a questioner about reality,
A countryman of all the bones of the world?
Now, here, the warmth I had forgotten becomes
Part of the major reality, part of
An appreciation of a reality;
And thus an elevation, as if I lived
With something I could touch, touch every way.
by Wallace Stevens
No matter how dark…
In an obvious example of cosmic confluence, the last issue of Grant Morrison’s 7-year Batman run came out on my birthday. Morrison’s Batman is what got me back buying monthly comics again after nearly a decade, so seeing it come to an end is a little bittersweet. My favorite writer took my favorite character to unexpected places, gave him a son, and “killed” him. Twice. He also created some of the best comics I’ve ever read (seriously, the first 3 issue of Batman and Robin Morrison did with Frank Quitely are easily three of the best comics ever published. Go read ‘em.).
This last issue was like the whole series itself: in equal measures thrilling, inspiring, and frustrating. I can’t wait to re-read the whole thing again.
